Physical education is the study of sports and sports science which is meant to train physical training teachers for sports related careers. These teachers look for jobs in schools and in competitive sports arenas. Sports students study both the theoretical and physical part of physical education so that they can gain knowledge and also pursue a career in the academic field too. They receive training in sporting areas such as track and field, apparatus gymnastics, gymnastics/dance, swimming, ball games etc. They also study about the theoretical aspects such as didactics and methodology of sport, psychology, medicine, sociology and history of sport, movement and training theory, construction of sports grounds and facilities, sports administration, sports journalism and sports law.
For becoming a physical education teacher you need to study an academic school subject and they must attain a health certificate so that they can prove their sporting fitness. Sports economics and sports managements are some of the degree programs which tell us about the sports context on one hand and business context such as marketing on other hand. These programs are offered by Universities of Applied Sciences of Koblenz and Braunschweig/Wolfenbüttel. Students who do well in these programs are also awarded trainer and club manager licences by the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB). This field is an upcoming field and will catch up in future.
